Orthodontic treatment is an investment in your family’s smiles. We want nothing to stand in the way of receiving these treatments. Here’s a quick guide to making sense of orthodontic insurance:
We’ll verify your coverage upfront, so there are no surprises down the road. If you have orthodontic coverage through your employer, we will help you confirm that your policy is active and ensure you are eligible for orthodontic coverage. Some policies might have a waiting period or age limits.
Orthodontic benefits are unique and often separate from regular dental coverage. We’ll help you understand your plan’s specifics, including eligibility for two-phase treatments and how benefits are paid out.
If our orthodontists recommend 2 phases of treatment, our office may only receive partial insurance reimbursement for Phase I in anticipation of Phase 2 using a portion of benefits at a later date. Those unused benefits may be applied toward Phase II if the policy remains active.
If extractions or exposures are needed to accomplish the orthodontic treatment, please note that those procedures are often billed from a dental benefit. Still, they can be billed from your orthodontic benefit in rare instances. Any remaining balance not paid by insurance for this orthodontic benefit will be transferred to your account balance.
Maintaining active coverage throughout treatment is essential to ensure you receive the full benefits. Life happens—job changes, job loss, or new insurance. We’re here to adjust and refile claims as needed to keep your treatment on track.
Note: Not all insurance plans cover “work in progress” (aka treatment that has already begun.) If there is a loss in coverage due to a job change or loss, any remaining costs from your prior insurance company that remains will be transferred to your balance.
When a patient is covered under two active policies, we’ll help figure out the coordination between policies. Note: Some exclusions may be present on your policy under a non-duplication rule, making it impossible to collect on both.

Not all health plans cover orthodontics, so it’s wise to check the specifics under your dental section or chat with your HR department.
